Stipa comata is common throughout this region, including robust forms that converge on Stipa spartea. Stipa neomexicana is sporadic and perhaps associated with ecological stability, such as these sites dominated by Agave utahensis subsp. kaibabensis. Note the short ligule (1 mm long or less).
