Summary

Description
English: "This historic photograph, captured in an unknown location, depicted a child who was seated in her bed, exhibiting the full-body, maculopapular rash due to the smallpox, variola major virus. "
  • Smallpox is a serious, contagious, and sometimes fatal infectious disease. The name smallpox was given in the XV century with reference to syphilis, which was also called great pox. The name variola is derived from the Latin word for “spotted” and refers to the raised bumps that appear on the face and body of an infected person.
