Description
English: Rana Sierrae Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog

Location: Sixth Lake (near the North Fork Big Pine Creek Trail, CA, USA
Identification: The identification that it was Rana Sierrae as opposed to Rana Muscosa was based primarily on the fact that it was found north of the Monarch Divide. See A STATUS REVIEW OF THE MOUNTAIN YELLOW-LEGGED FROG (Rana sierrae and Rana muscosa) November 28, 2011. Also based on images from this site: http://www.californiaherps.com/frogs/pages/r.sierrae.html, its appearance seems to be more like that of Rana Sierrae than Rana Muscosa. The identification was confirmed via an email from a biologist that does research on High Sierra ecology.

Additional information: A biologist active in High Sierra ecology research told me via email that the the fish were killed in Sixth and Seventh Lakes to allow the frog population to recover in the late 1990's. He said Sixth and Seventh Lakes were selected because they had remnant frog populations that they believed could recover if the fish were removed from the lakes and the stream that connects Sixth and Seventh Lake.
