English: I found this Florida Softshell Turtle as I was leaving Lake Woodruff.
I am happy to report that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commision has finally banned the commercial harvest of freshwater turtles in state waters. This note was added to the photo description on 06/22/2009 Well, most of the beautiful wading birds are gone. The canals are full of water again but it will take a while before the fish and snails are replenished after the spell of severe drought Lake Woodruff wetlands suffered. I saw one Great Blue Heron staring intently at the water and later there was one small alligator. Lots of frogs, bugs and some turtles were around. If I had the time to go much further back to the deeper canals I'm sure I would have seen more in the way of gators and some birds. I probably won't be going to this area much again until the summer heat is past. |
