Translation of the week[łahgo áshłééh]

Currently we have started a project on meta.wikipedia to get an article translated in as many wikipedias as possible every week. The article will be about a subject that usually gets rarely translated and has a lot of links to other subjects. Currently we have no-one to translate in your language. If someone is interested to participate please see: meta:Translation of the week You can also submit articles from your own languages there that you think deserve translation, but have a small chance of it. The articles must not be to short and not to long and have lots of links to possible other articles! en:user:Waerth

Block of the Communist Vandal TCV[łahgo áshłééh]

Please do not unblock this account to 19 days. See the Foundation Mailing List. This person is a long term vandal and the Foundation Mailing list stated he should be blocked indefinite. Jmerkey 17:43, 14 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please don't shorten the block. It's a well known multiwiki vandal. Drini 18:14, 14 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
As I noted on Jmerkey's user talk page, I had actually reapplied the block for 266 days. That may not be as tough as an infinite block, but to say that I blocked the user for a mere 19 days implies I am too soft on vandals. --Node ue 06:28, 15 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

Spamming Links[łahgo áshłééh]

You reinserted the spamming link to your personal email account again in the site notice again. This violates foundation policy. I have removed it. Jmerkey 17:45, 14 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

1) Accusing me of spamming is violation of our policies that we assume good faith of other contributors. Please do not level accusations against me. 2) Please cite which policy it violates. --Node ue 06:29, 15 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
Placing links to personal email accounts in the site notice and main page is really going a little far. A Senior member of the foundation asked me to get involved here (after reviewing the lack of progress on this wiki and obvious misuse of their site for such activities). I ask you to work with me and cease the hostility. Jmerkey 16:36, 15 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
I have yet again removed another spam email link you persist in placing on the site. Please do not place it there again. Jmerkey 16:38, 15 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
Yes that makes sense, as contributors should be helped on the open, not via private mail, and no individual should be come the only gatekeeper for newcomers. Drini 18:15, 14 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
Please see my extensive response on Jmerkey's user talkpage.

Text Markup for Dine Unicode Constructs[łahgo áshłééh]

I have written an extension to make it much easier to write with the Dine unicode markup. It is similiar to the chr2syl conversion I have written for the Cherokee Wikipedia. Please see the following:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Chr2syl

I have several Dine folks working with WMG to develop software to support Dine Wiki editing. Your assistance would be invaluable to help refine this extension to get more folks to the site and make it easier to edit here:

Please review the following and provide input if you are interested.

http://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/htdig/foundation-l/2006-September/023457.html

I hosted a meeting at my home all day Saturday with the Dine Linguists and Tribal members on the Dine Machine Translation Project.

Similiar to the Cherokee Language, Dine, while is has over 100,000 native speakers, his virtually little written materials as tribal resources. The group was led by Ronnie Greymountain of the Dine Nation and several linguists. The following items are in process and being completed by myself and the Dine team:

1. Unicode templates for Dine Unicode characters:

We are writing a <dine2text> and <text2dine> mediawiki extension to allow simple text entry in order to render Navajo Unicode characters (which are much simpler than Cherokee Syllabary). The specification agreed to is:

[char] = high unicode (char) = nasal unicode {char} = high nasal (L/l) = unvoiced L/l ' = glottal stop The "A" with a circle on top of the chracter is not part of the formal unicode for Dine and is not generally used with all dialects, so there is debate and continued research on whether it will be adopted. The Dine2Text MediaWiki extension will be completed next week and posted to meta.

2. Wikipedia nv.wikiepdia.org

This site was reviewed and the tribal members all voiced they liked the attempt. As with Cherokee, the Dine name for the site drew some chuckles as it is not a real word in Dine. The machine translation site is being setup at nv.wikigadugi.org and Ronnie will be meeting with the tribal leaders after we get several good runs of the translator.

3. Lexicons and Grammar parser

The Dine team is working on the lexicons and grammar parser for Wikitrans and have committed to first run on 30 days with completed lexicons and thesauraus. Dine has a similiar structure to Cherokee in word and sentence structure, though it is less structured than Cherokee.

We should have first runs of a completed Dine Wikipedia Machine translation mid to end of October. The Dine people will be publishing these runs at Wikigadugi, then after they receive tribal acceptance, we will start moving proofread content to the main Wikipedia site for the Dine Language.

There are three main dialects of Dine, but the language drift is minimal in comparison to Cherokee and several other native languages due to the stability of large number of native speakers in NavajoLand.

Jeff

Your assistance would be very valuable to assist in refining this extension. It would make it possible to write dine on a scratch page using markup tags, then cut and paste text into article more efficiently. Let me know if you think this would be useful. I will publish the markup extensions on meta after it has been thoroughly reviewed. You may be listed as a co-author of the extension with me if you provide input.

Machine Assisted Translation[łahgo áshłééh]

I can also post the lexicons and thesaurus here as well, and you can start filling in Dine words and grammar rules for MAT support. The MAT XMl dumps can be posted to nv.wikigadugi.org (not setup yet) and allow you nto rapidly download and correct articles and get this wiki to 100+ article status very quickly. It will take some work, but I am willing to assist you in getting this wiki to a large number of articles. Jmerkey 17:28, 15 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry[łahgo áshłééh]

I have completed my own checkuser by reviewing contribs on the various wikis and I have determined you are the same user who was trolling and vandalizing the Cherokee Wikipedia as User chr:User talk:24.251.68.181 who was blocked. Please stop representing on the english wikipedia that "some other person" was involved in dialogue with me when it was you who were doing so. I have no personal issues with you, but I am here to write articles and improve this wiki. Please stop the personal attacks like the one posted here and the sockpuppetry. I have no time for it. Thanks. Jmerkey 21:08, 15 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

1) I'm not sure how it's relevant to anything that I sometimes happen to share an IP with another user.
2) Considering some of the things I found you had said about Wikipedia on the Internet, that was certainly not a personal attack. Perhaps you should read up on these things before you continue to treat WP as if it were KLUG? If you want to accuse me of personal attacks, perhaps you should make sure you yourself are clear of them first. Like calling me a spammer or a troll or a vandal, as you seem wont to do.
3) I can represent whatever I want on the English Wikipedia. But you can't. Because you are not allowed to edit because of past behavior there. I posted what I did in a talkpage, hopefully you're not going to try to use it to sue me for libel since it's not in the encyclopedia article about you.
You have been blocked for 12 months for legal threats. You may return when the block expires. Admin or not, legal threats or language like this is not allowed at all. Jmerkey 04:53, 18 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
4) If you have no time for what I had to say there, then just don't read it. Reading any discussion you're banned from is only going to make you more anxious.

5) Regarding you telling me to stop wheel warring, well, please remember that wheel warring takes two people. You seem to be in the habit of locking everyone's user talk page when you block them. That is inappropriate and counter to policy. Also, you have yet to present me with the policy which says it is not OK to place my personal e-mail address on a service page, considering I am an admin here. All you have done is tell me that it is against policy and call me a spammer. Please don't do either of these things without citing the appropriate policy, as you have yet to prove I am in the wrong here.
6) I do admire the work you're doing for this Wikipedia so far, according to what you said on Foundation-l. Next time, though, I would be sure to post something on the village pump or somewhere similar so as to be able to draw on the input of the existing Wiki community (when there is one).
7) Navajo isn't that difficult to type if you have a keyboard layout for it, which I do at home (though most people don't). Even when I'm not at home, nv.wp has, as you may have noticed, the handy little character palette below the edit window. Of course the letter u does not exist in Navajo so I don't think that's really necessary. It does seem likely that it would be easier to type Navajo using the markup you gave instead of having to choose each special character from the palette. However there are two key points that need to be emphasized: 1) The glottal, while often represented by a Unicode apostrophe, is technically incorrect. ʼ is the proper character according to the standard. This isn't really that important as they are graphically similar, but the way in which the plain apostrophe is processed is very different in Mediawiki and other applications. 2) I'm not really familiar with the interaction between Chr2syl and the rest of the MediaWiki software. However, I'm hoping that the text will ultimately actually be stored in the database as properly encoded Unicode text, and that such markup would only be used for user convenience in typing.
8) Regarding machine translation, I am certainly willing to help, and I hope that it will ultimately be successful.
9) Again, as I mentioned before, if you are going to accuse me of personal attacks agaisnt you, you may want to stop calling me a spammer. --Node ue 02:11, 18 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

Are you a member of the Dine Nation? I note you keep using the word "Navajo" in your postings. Dine people never refer to themselves this way, they call themselves Dine. No matter, I have some native speakers joining us here. I am certain we will get this wiki up to standards very soon and evolve beyond the stub stage. I take it you do not speak dine as a native language which is why the current site is mostly dictionary phrases? Jmerkey 04:20, 18 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

Blocked for Legal Threats[łahgo áshłééh]

:1) I'm not sure how it's relevant to anything that I sometimes happen to share an IP with another user.

Admins occupy an office of trust granted by the foundation and the communities they serve. Creating and using sockpuppet accounts for the sole purpose to vandalize other wikipedia's and troll on them is a breach of this office of trust. Your admission here of sockpuppetry also implies that your statements made here were falsehoods. Making false statements combined with sockpuppetry evidences a serious breach of trust for an admin, IMHO. Jmerkey 05:35, 18 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
2) Considering some of the things I found you had said about Wikipedia on the Internet, that was certainly not a personal attack. Reponse to Offer to Work Together[łahgo áshłééh]

You know, I reviewed your comments on my talk page before reverting, and I would very much like to work with you on this wiki and had hoped we could work together. In fact, I am not a mean person at all and I very much dislike having to block users or even have to take such a stance. However, you have evidenced dishonesty, and a total disregard for the rules here. Please do not edit here or unblock yourself again if you are going to resort to legal threats. Sitting on your hands and thinking about your A) sockpuppetry on the Cherokee Wikipedia B) false statements and NPA on the English Wikipeida C) Legal baiting on my talk page may help you. How about you stay off this wiki for the next couple of weeks or so and think about your actions and why I or any other editor could place our trust in an Admin who unblocks themselves rather then posting a response. Why should I and or any editor or the foundation place our trust into someone who behaves this way? I am sorry, but I have given you several chances already. You need to sit the next few weeks out if you want to work with me. I will mull the matter over AFTER I see if the native community can trust your assistance in such a position of trust. I am native and if you wish to work with me, you need to back off for a while and at least TRY to inspire MY TRUST, then perhaps you will learn how to EARN this trust from others in the native community. Jmerkey 18:01, 20 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

I have shortened your block to 2 weeks. Please observe it and when you return after it expires, lets seriously talk about how to get this wiki up to speed and find a way to work together. I do not want to make an enemy when I could make a friend. Jmerkey 18:04, 20 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)
Question: Why did you block me again, and why do you expect me to observe it? You must not have much experience with any Wikipedia if you are of the opinion that admins ever block each other. If you are unsatisfied with my behavior, you need to address that issue with me. If I were not an admin, you could block me for perceived violations of policy, but I am an admin.
You have called me names repeatedly and refused to apologize, accused me of many things without providing any sort of proof of your statements, and now are equating "legal baiting" with "legal threats" (they are distinctly not the same thing).
Don't ask how anyone can put their trust in an admin who unblocks themselves. The reason I unblocked myself is because you blocked me. If I block you because of your extensive personal attacks, I honestly do not see why I should expect you to not unblock yourself. You act as if working with you is some sort of privelage; I was here first, I have admin privileges, you are welcome to work alone here as long as you are constructive, but you cannot tell me what I may and may not do.
If you would like to accuse me of violating rules, unless you want to violate NPA and various other policies, you should be citing both evidence of me having broken rules, as well as citing the individual policy points which you believe I disregarded. I am not some sort of demon, if you can actually point out where in policy it says that there is a rule, and you can actually point out where I have broken it, instead of just telling me over and over that I am "breaking the rules", I will work to rectify the situation. --Node ue 19:39, 20 Atsá Biyáázh 2007 (UTC)

See you in two weeks[łahgo áshłééh]

See you back in two weeks. When you return, lets get this wiki up to reasonable standards. Thanks. Jmerkey
